Special Needs Teacher Assistant (*NEW)

Khalsa School Calgary has an immediate career opportunity for a Special Needs Teacher Assistant for the 2010-2011 school year.
The Special Needs Teacher Assistant will be responsible for:
- Helping facilitate the teaching-learning process within the classroom for a special needs student
- Supporting students and teachers with emphasis on a special needs student
- Provide for individual student during games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development
- Supervise student in classrooms, halls, school yard, gymnasium and or on field trips
- Providing extra assistance to an individual student as well as assist with all students
Successful candidate:
- A Bachelor of Education degree
- Special Needs Teaching experience is an asset
The specific placement and assignment will be determined by the school principal in consultation with both the staff and the successful candidate.

Full Time Custodian
Custodian Qualifications:
- Must be enthusiastic about position and be willing to accept responsibility and have the interest and ability to work effectively with others.
- Experience and/or training in the maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Experience in working with electricity, plumbing, heating, carpentry and other skills needed in maintaining school building and grounds.
- Must be available to work: Monday-Friday 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm (or as needed) with additional hours on weekends (as needed)
Custodian Job Responsibilities:
- Keeps building and premises, including play areas, parking lots, neat and clean at all times.
- Shovels and performs yard keeping chores as appropriate to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Assumes responsibility for the security of the school by ensuring school is alarmed and locked on a daily basis
- Sweeps classrooms daily and sanitizes furniture.
- Cleans corridors after school each day, and during the day when their condition requires it.
- Scrubs and disinfects toilet floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
- Makes minor building repairs as he or she is capable of doing.
- Remains on the school premises during school hours and during nonschool hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his or her attendance is required by the school board.
- Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Assumes other responsibilities as assigned by the principal and or the school board
